Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, although it is not yet known when the game will come out.
Naughty Dog, At the time of The Last Of Us Online’s cancellation, the studio released a statement saying ing post-launch content would severely impact development on future single-player games, which would become their “focus” there on, teasing “more than one ambitious, brand new single player game.”
“Brand new” might rule out the potential of The Last Of Us Part 3, assuming it’s referencing new IP like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but as a diehard TLOU fan, I’m refusing to read too much into the langue.
In this fresh interview on Press X to Continue, Druckmann shared more details about the production of the unannounced game being worked on alongside Intergalactic. As transcribed by VGC, he said “we have several directors on Intergalactic” calling out game directors Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau, and co-writer, Clair Carré.”
“So there are times when I’m away and they are in charge, and I get to come back and be surprised and enjoy certain choices they made, and other ones I pull my hair out over and we have to change course or argue about it.”
Promoted to Studio Head and Head of Creative at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann now seemingly plays a more cross-functional role, providing creative input across multiple projects simultaneously.
“Then there’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m in more of a producer role and I get to mentor, watch this other team, and give and be the executive in the room.”
“I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”
Time will tell what this second, unannounced project eventuates to be, but it’s likely we’ll have to wait until Intergalactic materialises to learn much more.
