While a lot has been revealed about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far, a few questions remain, including the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade Packs, specifically in Australia. 634n6u
Upgrade Packs are essentially digital upgrades that can be purchased separately (digitally) or bundled (physically or digitally) with selected Nintendo Switch titles, upgrading the game to a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
So far, Nintendo has revealed two types of upgrade packs. The first, which is cheaper, brings resolution and framerate updates along with mouse control and HDR where relevant. The second type brings all those improvements to the games but also adds extra content.
Essentially, it seems that upgrades in the future will fall into these two types. Nintendo has updated their online store with the relevant pricing.
The first type of upgrade is one which adds minor features to the game that usually improve the games visual fidelity. These upgrades are available for around $20AU.
These are the types of upgrades like those detailed with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, where the improvements are mainly to do with resolution, frame rate and HDR upgrades.
For the second type, which adds extra content, the upgrade packs will cost $30AU. These upgrades also come with the graphical improvements detailed in the first tier.
Games included in the second type of upgrade pricing along with what content is being added are as follows:
If you don’t already own these games on the original Switch, they can be purchased as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for $109.95, meaning if you already own the game, it’s a much better deal to buy the upgrade packs.
The below games will all be available to be upgraded from the original Switch versions for free:
We still don’t have any visibility on how much the upgrade packs will cost for games that aren’t already released – like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Z-A – but that information will surely be made known closer to release.
Without doubt the no-brainers for me are the two starter packs.
If protection is what you’re after, there’s a massive range of screen protectors and cases:
There’s also a bunch of grips and magnetic charging stand that I absolutely love the look of:
