Netflix’s Bioshock Film Is Still Happening But Will Be “Smaller” And “More Personal”

Would you kindly explain?

Although the radio silence may have caused concern for eager Bioshock fans awaiting news on Netflix’s previously-announced film adaptation of the video game series, it sounds like things are still happening, albeit on a smaller scale according to a report by Variety.

Speaking during a at San Diego Comic-Con, which is kicking off now and through the weekend, producer Roy Lee (who holds credits on The LEGO Movie, Doctor Sleep, Don’t Worry Darling and more) revealed that the film is still in the works but is being “reconfigured” and will be presented from smaller and more personal point-of-view thanks to a shift in Netflix’s approach to film production.

“The new regime has lowered the budgets,” Lee told attendees. “So we’re doing a much smaller version… It’s going to be a more personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project.”

At this stage it appears as though Francis Lawrence (Constantine, The Hunger Games) is still on board to direct the film.

When it was originally revealed back in 2022, Netflix had little to say about the actual premise of the Bioshock film, or its place in the wider franchise, simply announcing that, “Netflix, 2K and Take-Two Interactive are partnering to produce a film adaptation of the renowned video game franchise BioShock” along with the key art below.
